How lifting weights changed everything
Going into the unknown led to massive growth both physically and mentally
I never thought weightlifting was for me. As someone who is a physical education major, I always loved health and fitness, but I would stick to more cardio-based exercise.
A big part of that was fear. I did not think that I was capable of lifting heavy weights. I always thought this was for athletes and body builders.
Until two years ago when I decided to give it a try.
I went into the unknown not knowing if I was going to enjoy it or be successful.
I remember doing my first back squat with no weight on the barbell so I could get the technique down first.
You have to be willing to suck at something if you want to master it.
When I first started, I didn’t know what I was doing but I stuck with it.
I consistently showed up every week and got better with each movement.
It has not been two years of consistent weightlifting, and it really has changed my life.
My body feels so much stronger and I have gained confidence not just physically but mentally.
I think to myself if I can go into the unknown and become good at something like weightlifting, what other areas of my life am I holding myself back on?
Weightlifting has taught me that discipline matters and that gains are not going to happen overnight.
If you do it the proper way, it will take time and patience to get the results you want.
I went into it with the mindset of if I can consistently do this three times a week for 6 months, that I will be able to do it for the rest of my life.
And that is exactly what I intend to do.
If you are thinking about going into the unknown in any part of your life, I recommend you do it.
That one decision just might change everything.
Until next time, keep showing up and let the invisible gains of consistency and momentum build a better life.

I was nervous to start with weights too..after 15 years now, I have been working with free weights and doing strength training.. it's just part of the daily routine. As we grow older and lose muscle it's probably one of the most important things we can do for ourselves. Not only good for the body but also the mind.
Hi, as I was telling you in the chat, I’ve started a program to become a certified personal trainer with SBB, here in Italy. It’s an online course with some practical in-person lessons held in various gyms.
