Introducing Invisible Miles
A newsletter for taking phone free walks into the unknown.
This is how it happens.
You wake up and within about 5 seconds of opening your eyes, you check your phone.
Immediately your brain is put into reactionary mode. It doesn’t even get 60 seconds of peace and quiet before being overloaded with information.
But you could consider a different way to start your day.
Instead of grabbing your phone upon waking, you head straight outside.
Your brain is given a clean slate to start the day.
Fresh air. Sunlight. Movement.
Another thing it provides is the chance to enhance your creativity and expand the mind.
If your brain is immediately attacked with notifications, all the focus shifts to that.
A walk outside after you have scrolled for 10 minutes is still good, but it is even better if you haven’t touched your phone.
We live in a society where it is “normal” to stay inside all day with very little sunlight.
It is not normal and we should be grateful for having the ability to start the day outside moving our body.
If there is someone in your life that is able to go along for the walk, have them come along. You would be putting yourself in a very small percentage of people that is starting their day walking outside with human connection.
That is what this newsletter about. Building a community that encourages people to move more, socialize, and take a break from social media.
My morning now consists of a 30-to-45-minute phone free walk, journaling, and eating a whole food high protein breakfast.
The first two hours of the day, my phone is nowhere in sight.
Start off small. Get in the habit of not checking your phone right away and going outside instead. It can be a 5-minute walk to start.
You would be surprised how much momentum can build.
Before you know it, 30 days will go by and will realize a couple hours without your phone is not that big of a deal.
Just maybe a creative idea will come to mind that might end up changing your life.
It is worth a shot to take a walk into the unknown.
This newsletter isn’t about steps, streaks, or optimizing your circadian rhythm.
It’s about stepping outside before the world tells you who to be.
It’s about wandering your own neighborhood like you’ve never been there before.
About noticing the way the light hits a cracked sidewalk.
About having a thought that isn’t sponsored, suggested, or shoved in your face.
I don’t know exactly where this goes.
Maybe it becomes a small group of people who wake up early and walk into the dark before sunrise.
Maybe it becomes a quiet rebellion.
Maybe it’s just a handful of us choosing air over algorithms.
But I’m going to keep doing it.
If the idea of reclaiming your mornings and maybe your mind sounds interesting…
Come along.
